وَفي أَنفُسِكُم ۚ أَفَلا تُبصِرونَ

And within yourselves—don’t you see?

وَفِي السَّماءِ رِزقُكُم وَما توعَدونَ

In the heavens is your sustenance, as promised.

فَوَرَبِّ السَّماءِ وَالأَرضِ إِنَّهُ لَحَقٌّ مِثلَ ما أَنَّكُم تَنطِقونَ

By the Lord of heavens and earth: this is as true as your speaking.

هَل أَتاكَ حَديثُ ضَيفِ إِبراهيمَ المُكرَمينَ

Did you hear the story of Abraham’s honored guests?

إِذ دَخَلوا عَلَيهِ فَقالوا سَلامًا ۖ قالَ سَلامٌ قَومٌ مُنكَرونَ

They entered upon him and said, “Peace.” He replied, “Peace, strangers.”

فَقَرَّبَهُ إِلَيهِم قالَ أَلا تَأكُلونَ

He placed it before them and said, “Will you not eat?”

فَأَوجَسَ مِنهُم خيفَةً ۖ قالوا لا تَخَف ۖ وَبَشَّروهُ بِغُلامٍ عَليمٍ

Sensing their discomfort, they reassured him, “Fear not.” And they gave him the good news of a knowledgeable son.

فَأَقبَلَتِ امرَأَتُهُ في صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّت وَجهَها وَقالَت عَجوزٌ عَقيمٌ

His wife approached in astonishment, slapped her face, and said, “A barren old woman?”

قالوا كَذٰلِكِ قالَ رَبُّكِ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الحَكيمُ العَليمُ

They responded, “So said your Lord. Indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing.”

قالَ فَما خَطبُكُم أَيُّهَا المُرسَلونَ

He asked, “What’s your business, O messengers?”
