أَلَم تَرَ إِلَى الَّذينَ قيلَ لَهُم كُفّوا أَيدِيَكُم وَأَقيمُوا الصَّلاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكاةَ فَلَمّا كُتِبَ عَلَيهِمُ القِتالُ إِذا فَريقٌ مِنهُم يَخشَونَ النّاسَ كَخَشيَةِ اللَّهِ أَو أَشَدَّ خَشيَةً ۚ وَقالوا رَبَّنا لِمَ كَتَبتَ عَلَينَا القِتالَ لَولا أَخَّرتَنا إِلىٰ أَجَلٍ قَريبٍ ۗ قُل مَتاعُ الدُّنيا قَليلٌ وَالآخِرَةُ خَيرٌ لِمَنِ اتَّقىٰ وَلا تُظلَمونَ فَتيلًا
Didn’t you see those who were told, “Hold back your hands, perform the prayer, and give the obligatory charity”? Yet, when fighting was prescribed for them, a group among them feared people as they should fear God, or even more so. They said, “Our Lord, why did You decree fighting upon us? Couldn’t You have postponed it for us for a little while?” Say, “The enjoyment of this world is fleeting, but the Hereafter is better for the righteous, and you won’t be wronged in the slightest.”
